Learn about Island Gondola & Bribie

Our
Story

Island Gondola began as a dream, and today it’s making memories on the water.

Get to know Island Gondola

Island Gondola began as a dream and became reality thanks to Quinn’s dedication and vision. After years of searching, he discovered a Venetian gondola in Cairns that had fallen into neglect. With months of careful restoration, the boat was brought back to life and Island Gondola officially launched in 2014.

Since then, Quinn has been devoted to building the business from the ground up, working tirelessly to share the beauty of the Pumicestone Passage and canals with his guests. For him, the reward lies in creating once-in-a-lifetime memories, whether it’s a romantic proposal, a wedding, an anniversary, a birthday celebration, or a Christmas lights cruise.

From breakfast, lunch to dinner on the water, every cruise is designed to be more than just a ride, it’s an experience that combines luxury, charm, and the magic of being on the water. Over the years, thousands of couples, families, and friends have shared special moments aboard Island Gondola, and Quinn is proud to continue offering this truly unique experience.

Discover Bribie

Bribie Island is the most northerly and smallest of three major islands. These sandy islands form the coastline of northern Moreton Bay in Queensland, Australia. At the widest point, the island is eight kilometres with a length of 34 kilometres. Bribie is a fifty-minute drive from Brisbane Airport and just two-hours by car from the Gold Coast and is situated just south of the Sunshine Coast.

A Gondola on Bribie

A gondola cruise is a unique way to experience Bribie Island, gliding through the canals and out onto the Pumicestone Passage with the Glasshouse Mountains as your backdrop. Whether you choose a romantic sunset sail, a breakfast or lunch cruise, or a fun trip with family and friends, you’ll enjoy stunning views, the chance to spot dolphins, and the comfort of a beautifully refurbished gondola complete with lounge seating, mood lighting, and thoughtful extras like wine, chocolates, or seasonal fruit platters.

Things to do on Bribie Island

Community Markets

Five community marketplaces operate within the island region and you can explore the waterside at Bongaree, Banksia Beach or Bellara. There are plenty of shops for browsing handmade and fresh produce, plant life, clothing, used and new merchandise. The Art Gallery at Banksia Beach is very impressive with a range of arts and crafts and so much more.

Pumicestone Passage

You have several options to be on the water on Pumicestone Passage to venture either near the Bribie Bridge, the amazing Canals or up through the passage and marine park. The passage is between the mainland and the island and heading towards Caloundra offers breathtaking views of the Glasshouse Mountains, the SS Avon Shipwreck, the historic channel founded by Mathew Flinders more than 200 years ago and the township of Toorbul.

Sealife

This area is a Marine Park and you may be lucky enough to see spectacular sea life including sea turtles, dugongs and playful dolphins.

Butterfly House

The Butterfly House is a volunteer project to bring the local community together. Not only do visitors have a great time and receive an education but the Butterfly House helps needy individuals both overseas and locally. The Butterfly House was originated as a residential property in 2013 only to become one of the best tourist attractions on the island. There are hundreds of incredible butterflies flying all around.

Seaside Museum

No trip is complete without visiting the Seaside Museum at Bongaree. Visitors will learn about the military history of the island during the Second World War as well as history of the original Indigenous and the experiences of early settlers. Melsa Train Park near the Bribie RSL club is a great place to spend the day with the family. Anyone with a passion for relics of the past or miniature trains will be in heaven.
